Bogstock 2007 Review Saturday 18th August 2007, Somewhere in Kildare
When a mate of mine asked me to attend Bogstock this year with him (he had attended the first but missed the second one last year) I agreed saying at least it will be a laugh. I was mistaken. It was the biggest load of shite and the saddest excuse for a party i have ever attended.
After spending hours getting lost on country roads and eventually finding Bogstock after 10.30pm that night we arrived from Dublin. We just got to the barbeque as people were finishing cooking and were told rudely to work away ourselves. The coals were going cold over the misty rain that was there and I ended up firing my half cooked hotdog over the ditch.
There was an army style tent with decks set up in there.
Within half an hour of arriving I noticed a much larger ratio of men to women, about 3:1. Add the fact that most of these "women" looked like men and were over 40 didn't help the party atmosphere. I later on in the night heard one of the Dj's declare it was a bit of a "sausage fest" and i couldn't have agreed more.
Aside from the women the people there were mainly sad fortysomething year olds who still get wrecked off their heads and then cannot act sociably when under the influence.
The first DJ was called "Cleveland Mike" that was playing at Bogstock seemed more in place at playing at a wedding or a 21st birthday party than at an outdoor allnight party. Playing the kind of music you would hear at "Copper Faced Jacks" and friday night 80's on Today FM. Absolutly useless. After talking with him he told me he had been djing 3 years (it showed, at one stage he was so wrecked that he didn't know two of his tunes were playing out over the soundsystem at the same time)and mostly played in pubs
At this stage i wandered over to this smaller tent they had set up where 2 fortysomethingyearolds were bady playing an acoustic and eletric guitars (badly and out of tune) and TRYING to sing (failing miserably)to a small audience.
The atmosphere at this party was the most unfriendly and clique i have ever come accross, with sneery old fuckers trying to get one up on each other (and anyone else who wandered by) verbally all night.
Bogstock is a party which is organised by a farmer from kildare, John Mc Something. I met him at the bonfire in the early hours about 5am and introduced myself (and was completely blanked) so with that and after observing his behaviour as he got completly wasted during the night he turned out to be one of the most unfriendly, arrogant, ignorant and self obsessed wankers i have ever come across.
At 5.30am I had had enough, grabbed my friend (who was at this stage completly demented)and decided to take my chances with the law and drive back to Dublin feeling a bit worse for wear after pills and coke. At the time I was quite happy to hand over my license in exchange for getting out of that godforsaken, cold wet muddy field. I finally got home at 7am and vowed that i would never, ever, ever again waste a Saturday night on something as awful as that.
Avoid Bogstock like the Plague or any other STD you wouldn't like to have.
