The Henrys lads. Greg and Stevie G.

Niall redmond is a great house Dj.

And I have great memories of Joe McGrath who made me late for school on wednesdays when Genius was in the Kitchen.

And I can't but give a mention to Fergie and of course Phil Kieran up north. Particular for breaking out of the island which has proven very hard to do.

In fact there seems to have been alot more success in the broader scheme of things, for DJs from the north that from the south??? Any comments on this as well?

Think its coz up North they are in the UK and part of the UK scene. Down here djs are not considered part of that same scene.
Obviously the UK scene is far bigger (in fact its global)

Yeah i'd agree with you Chester. Radio 1 coverage (from Lush and Shine) over the years has probably helped too.

Think you mean Greg and Shane. They definitely get my vote. My favourite DJ's anyway, let alone just Irish.

I'll probably get shot for saying this but Mark Kavanagh is defo up thier in my estimation. I know HH is his thing these days but I will never forget him rocking the tent before Morrilo at Creamfields back in 2001. His radio Ireland show was the biz too.
Other than him I would have to rate Arveen and Shay Hannon

Wont forget that set either, it was awesome. Theres plenty of talent out there, Jeff Walters played a great set in Crawdaddy last Sat, Sunil is good too

Tom Cole was great back in the day (apparently!), Arveene, Phil Kieran...

I would ave 2 say:
Arveene (he is pele on da decks)
Fran Hartnett (the artist formely known as Azreal)
and Simon Conway
oh go on then, gavin feeney as well for his years of hard work

Was Tom Cole not an english man, he was a legend though, thursday nights in the redbox about 6 years ago with Tony Pugh (what ever happend to him) was great stuff

He has the best classics out of everyone.

For me he is king!

And of course the Backlash lads, Averill and Phil, and the Bodytonic heads, Tayor and John Mahon

And Calvin James is a pretty talented mothafucka too

Funny, I posted that Jeff Walters post yet have no memory whatsoever of the gig. Too much clubbing lately.

Arveene, Barry Redsetta, Simon F, all quality

what criteria is being used to judge? mixing, track selection, amount of gigs (i.e. people like them promoters book them) or what?

Arveene is arguably the top dog around town if you go by skill and the amount of work - not that there is some wonder kid in a bedroom or anything waiting to de-thrown him. Jon Averill recently played for me at the hub and went from 12s to mac with applomb. Simon F is always good for a party vibe and sites like this always drum uplots of support for sunil sharpe and simon conway so they must be in with a shout.

My own favourites range from Billy Scurry, Iain McCready, Glen Molloy, Robbie Nelson and David Holmes. I also like David Hales and reckon Dave Ingham is close to that bedroom wonderkid i spoke of earlier but is a lazy bastard. Johnny Moy and Arveene have now been doing it consistnently for ages, especially Jonny the auld dawg, so i would sugest it is between them - the master and apprecntice if you like.

check out fran azrael hartnett alongside francois at the hub with me at Dont Hold Back this weekend 10 march.

if you go international then derrick carter, dj sneak, richie hawtin and matthew bushwacka are my top dogs, but i suppose its horses for courses, as i am sure the hip hop boys would refute pretty much most of this. ah well, **** em.
