This is the sixth instalment in the "The Kings of…" series. This time round Techno's heavyweights are called in to give their take on what in influenced the sound they are now responsible for championing.
Laurent Garnier's contribution is the less techy of the two featuring diva Aretha Franklin and Hip Hop guru Dabrye.
Carl Craig goes a bit darker with material from Yello and Alexander Robotnick.
Both CD's are a fine collection of some great music. If you are an avid collector the more obscure sounding stuff out there, then this is a must have with some very hard to get material being featured. The format I am listening to now is un-mixed and asfaik this is how it will be released later in the month.
A lot of the tunes here have featured on a number of the Radio Soulwax - 2 Many DJ's radio mixes so that should give you a better flavour of what to expect.
Each artist pays homage to the other by sneaking in one of their productions or remixes on the others compilation. Nothing wrong with a bit of backslapping I suppose amongst friends.
